I have been working in accountancy and related fields for the last 24 years since I left school. Having started as an administration assistant but supporting the accounts person in my first job, I learnt how to process payroll using a DOS program and keep handwritten ledgers up to date. Moving to an accountancy practice, I refined my seretarial skills but also developed my accountancy knowledge and complemented this by studying for and completing my Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Qualification and gaining the necessary work experience to become a full member. In 2007, I decided to become an AAT Member in Practice (former title of Licensed Accountant). I chose to leave the accountancy role and slowly built up my own practice, becoming fully self-employed. Originally naming the business with my own name, I then decided I wanted a new name and chose the former name of the house where I was living "Clevedon". This name has served me well and generated many referrals. In 2017 I took on a full-time voluntary role, gaining much experience in the construction industry with materials sourcing and procurement. I have now returned to rebuild my own business again, deciding that a fresh start deserved a new name. There had been some confusion that I was located in Clevedon and I now wanted to show I offered many skills besides bookkeeping and accounts. The brown pelican is a native bird of California which is one of my favourite places to visit. Using this name with "business services" highlights my versatility in providing bookkeeping, payroll, secretarial skills, office administration support and management and tuition in computer skills. I hope to further widen my skillset by undertaking courses in social media and teaching English as a foreign language so that I can offer more specialised marketing and tuition skills. I'd love to offer online tuition and support options together with private conversational lessons for those who would like to improve their English skills, particularly in the business field.
